Welcome to Local 1227
Local 1227 is an affiliate of the National Conference of Firemen & Oilers Service Employees International Union AFL-CIO, CLC

Local 1227 is the largest NCFO/SEIU public employee Local Union in the State of Florida. We represent more than 5000 public workers in Palm Beach County and Glades County.

Why should I be a member?
In addition to receiving Local benefits and services, belonging to a Union allows you to do your part to support other workers and their issues. Labor Unions are the only organizations whose entire purpose is to better working conditions, pay and benefits for workers. This is what Local 1227 is all about.

Top 10 Q&A
Top 10 Questions & Answers

1. Question: If the Union is so ineffective, why is our employer opposed to the employees organizing?
Answer: It’s because having a union will give us collective strength
greater than we have now as individuals. Management will have to negotiate with us over wages, benefits, health and safety
and working conditions.

2. Question: Is it possible for us to lose some of our wages and benefits
during negotiations? Do negotiations begin at “ground zero”
Answer: If having a union would really reduce your wages and benefits wouldn’t our employer welcome a union? The truth is that Union members earn an average $ 2.00 more an hour then their non – union counterparts. Contract negotiations begin from the level of what we have now.

3. Question: Why do we need a union?
Answer: Simply talking about issues that affect us as employees just isn’t enough. We have to be heard. You and your co-workers
face similar problems and have similar needs. When we organize, we gain the strength to make the changes we need by working together. Through SEIU/NCFO, public employees have a voice, one that is heard on the job and through Legislature, County Officials and City Hall.

4. Question: Does voting in a union mean we will have to strike?
Answer: NO! Employers love to scare employees with a lot of strike talk. Remember, we are not organizing to strike, we are organizing to effect positive changes at work.

5. Question: Our supervisors keep telling us about how expensive union dues are, is it worth it to organize?
Answer: Exaggerating union dues is a scare tactic used to obscure the real issues and problems you face at work everyday. You need to ask yourself if you can afford “not” to organize.
